PM Case Study: LinkedIn for Mentorship

TLDR; LinkedIn is the world's largest professional network on the internet. People usually use LinkedIn to find the right job or internship, connect and strengthen professional relationships, and learn the skills they need to succeed in their careers. LinkedIn user statistics show that the platform currently counts over 722 million members and 310 million monthly active users. 40% of LinkedIn MAUs are using the platform daily.

Problem Statement

You’ve joined LinkedIn as a VP of Product.

Lately, you’ve been observing users posting requests seeking mentors to help them accelerate their careers. Also, there are users putting their availability for one-to-one limited interaction for sharing their knowledge and mentoring others in the space they have experience in.

You, as VP of Product for LinkedIn, have decided to propose a mentorship feature, where-in users can connect with mentors and seek knowledge and mentorship. You have to come up with a detailed plan covering:-

  • Product features to be rolled out on the current LinkedIn app (think of how you will show the new offering, how will you show the skills of available mentors on the app, how will you get the mentees connected with their mentors, etc.)
  • Balsamiq, Figma wireframe preferred
  • Market sizing/business opportunity/Monetization strategy, if any?
  • Go-to-market plan
  • What are the success metrics?
